190 Coffee & Tea is a new local coffee shop, that had recently opened in 2022, set in an up and coming area of Duluth, MN. They were looking to gain more exposure and saturation within the community here, as a mjaority of the residents didn't know the name of 190 yet. As we know, word of mouth is the strongest way to spread credibility so our team chose to focus on young adults and college students around the city. Our team ended up strategizing an advertising campaign while I designed all the marketing materials for the project.
We decided to make three themed posters for events and promotions that 190 could implement during the slower seasons.
Since Duluth relies heavily on summer for its busy but short tourist season, and is known for it extreme winters, we thought it best to focus on gaining the loyalty of the locals. To make 190 the hotspot for all things college students and cool atmospheric lounge, we made sure to have a "Finals Grind" week specialized for college students, with a student discount and later operational hours. A holiday themed promo, "Jingle Beans" for christmas specials and fun. Lastly, we came up with "Hallowbean Spooktacular" for a frightful costume event to bring the community together.
Another material we ended up making was a coupon. We knew UMD and other colleges in town gave out coupon books for freshman and current students for surrounding businesses. We thought this would be the perfect opportunity to partner with schools and appeal to more students in the area, in hopes to get them in the doors of 190.
An obvious way we thought to build their brand image and awareness was by utilizing social media. On the left is an instagram carousel we used to encapsulate 190's atmosphere and to grab the attention of the viewer.
No advertising campaign can be without a consistent message. To do this we came up with the above slogan and kept it the same across all mediums. We felt this would be a good way to draw people in and make them feel welcome and aware of who 190 is.
